It Was Written is the best sophomore album ever by any rapper. Only nas could follow up an album like illmatic with something like this. Classic !

It was Written is not Nas' best album, but it his most complete. This comes a close second to Illmatic. You had to be there. You had to read about, hear about, and see the build up and anticipation. Their are only 2 emcees in hip hop history that had the kind of intense and maniacal build up that this album had: Post Chronic Snoop and Pre and Post Illmatic Nas. It's so easy to take for granted how amazing, detail, complex and intricate Nas rhymes are. If you've ever been dissapointed with Nas, this album will show why. With this album he was and is still so far ahead of everyone else. No one else can visualizes and verbalize things like Nas does. On the low, Take it Blood is his best song ever. You feel the hunger to succeed and climb out of where he came from and the way he delivers his ryhmes is remarkable. He packs so much meaning, so many nouns, verbs, synonms his rhymes are almost impossible to de-code and copy. I love this album so much and only wish that one day he would peform it from beginning to end.
  • Must have if you love 90s hip hop
